THE OPUS STORY TIME WRITING CONTEST



Put your best words forward!

The Jamaica College Old Boys Association of New York is pleased to invite the best writers at JC to to put 'your best words forward' in the "OPUS Story Time" writing contest.

We are looking for real student telling real exciting stories about life at JC. If you’ve got a way with making your words come to life, here’s your chance to show your stuff. The winner will receive a cash prize of JM$15,000, plus a personal one year subscription to the acclaimed Jamaica Journal, published by the Institute of Jamaica

Instructions

  • Write and submit a 500 words story on the following topic: “My Life at Jamaica College”

  • The story must be original and previously unpublished

  • Upload a photo that will be used in the winner announcement and related promotion

Eligibility

  • The OPUS Story Time writing contest is open to all current students of Jamaica College.

  • One entry per student

Deadline

  • Contest entries are due by the latest, midnight Thursday, 31 May 2018

Prize

  • Cash prize of JM$15,000 plus a personal one year subscription to the Jamaica Journal

  • The winner will also be featured on the Jamaica College Old Boys Association of New York OPUS BLOG and the story will be published in the GriffIn Awards Playbill magazine

  • Winner will be notified on 08 June 2018

Judging criteria include

  • Inventiveness

  • Humor

  • Original voice

  • Unique style

  • Descriptive language

  • Good diction

  • Realness

The decisions of the judges are final

By participating in the OPUS Story Time Writing Contest, each entrant represents and warrants that the story submitted is their own original unpublished work.
