Dear JC Student Writers,   

The Jamaica College Old Boys Association of New York is pleased to invite you to put your best words forward in the "OPUS Story Time" writing contest.   

We are looking for real students telling real, exciting stories about life at JC. If you’ve got a way with making words come to life, here’s your chance to show your stuff. The winner will receive a cash prize of JMD$40,000, plus a personal one-year subscription to the acclaimed Jamaica Journal, published by the Institute of Jamaica.   

Instructions
Topic: Write and submit a 500-word story on the topic: “My Life at Jamaica College.”

 

Originality: The story must be 100% original, previously unpublished, and must not be generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Media: Upload a photo of yourself to be used in the winner announcement and related promotion.

 

Eligibility
The OPUS Story Time writing contest is open to all current students of Jamaica College.

Limit: One entry per student.

 

Deadline
This is an annual contest. Entries are due no later than midnight on June 30th each year.

 

Prize
Cash Prize: JMD$40,000.

Subscription: A personal one-year subscription to the Jamaica Journal.

 

Recognition: The winner will be featured on the JCOBANY OPUS Blog, and the story will be published in the Griffin Awards Playbill magazine.

 

Announcement: The winner will be announced at the annual Griffin Awards.

Unique Style & Descriptive Language

Good Diction

 

The decisions of the judges are final.

 

By participating in the OPUS Story Time Writing Contest, each entrant represents and warrants that the story submitted is their own original, unpublished work and has not been created using AI tools.
